Roofing warranty coverage explained

Warranty: What's Covered, What's Not, and Why "Lifetime" Doesn't Mean What You Think

Most warranties have fine print the size of a roofing contract. We break down exactly what GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, and our workmanship guarantee actually cover — and what they exclude.

Proof Construction Workmanship Guarantee

Every roof we install comes with a 5-Year Workmanship Guarantee — no pro-rating, no depreciation schedule, no hidden deductibles. If a leak appears due to our installation methods within 5 years, we fix it. Free. Period.

5-Year Installation Guarantee

Covers all labor: flashing installation, shingle fastening, valley construction, pipe boot sealing, ridge vent alignment. No pro-rating. Full coverage for the first 5 years.

Transferable

Transferable Coverage

Selling your home? Our workmanship guarantee transfers to the new owner. We handle the paperwork. Most competitors' warranties expire on sale.

Exclusions

What's NOT Covered

Act of God (hail, wind over 110mph, tornado), improper attic ventilation (we measure yours before we install), chemical spills, or modifications by unlicensed contractors.

Here's what GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed actually cover in Oklahoma's climate. The "lifetime" label is deceptive — read the pro-rating schedule.

* "50-year" means the warranty duration, not a guarantee the roof lasts 50 years. Pro-rated after the non-prorated period — payout decreases annually.

What Most Roofers Don't Tell You About Warranties

1. "Lifetime" is marketing, not engineering. Manufacturer "lifetime" warranties run 30-50 years in the fine print — and after the non-prorated period (usually 5-10 years), coverage depreciates. Year 20 on a "lifetime" warranty might pay 10% of replacement cost.

2. Workmanship warranties are only as good as the contractor. If the roofer goes out of business, their workmanship warranty is worthless. Proof Construction has been Tulsa-based since 2019 with a 4.9/5 rating and BBB accreditation.

3. Ventilation voids everything. Most manufacturer warranties require 1:300 attic ventilation. If your attic doesn't meet spec, the manufacturer can deny any shingle defect claim — even if the defect is clearly manufacturing-related. We verify your ventilation before installation.

4. Registration deadlines are real. GAF requires online registration within 90 days of installation. Owens Corning within 180 days. Miss the window, and your warranty drops from 50 years to 20 years. We register every roof we install and provide you with confirmation.

5. Insurance-backed vs. contractor-backed. GAF's Golden Pledge warranty is backed by GAF's insurance — if the contractor goes belly-up, GAF still covers the workmanship. Standard warranties are contractor-backed (worthless if the roofer closes). We offer both tiers.
